There’s very few people that push me, motivate me and inspire me to think outside the box to achieve my goals. Jordan Pariseau is one of those people. Since 2015, we’ve spent numerous hours collaborating, agreeing and disagreeing on many ideas and projects surrounding F.R.E.E. We’ve challenged each other, made mistakes together and learned from each other. Because of these lessons, we’ve become more than just training partners and business partners, we’ve become family.
If you’ve spent any time around J, you know his energy and zest for life is contagious. He brings energy that is unmatched by anyone else. However, as most of us know, with most highs, there can also be lows.
Over the last 9 months, he’s taken time away from F.R.E.E. to better understand himself so he can elevate his music career to the next level. So on January 15th, I waited until midnight to listen to his newest release, “This Is Not From The Album”, and shortly after listening to it, I started writing this post.
Raw and real are common descriptions I’ve noticed trending around social media about his new release. While I do agree it’s raw and real, I feel the words “courageous” and “resilient” better describe the lyrics, vocals and track.
J, your decision to step away and search for who you are and who you want to be as an individual and artist is courageous. Despite the negativity, you made your choice to do what’s best for your health. Then your decision to come back, and release this meaningful track punctuates your resilience and mental toughness. You made the choice to not let your personal and environmental hardships define you or dictate your outcome. But instead you used it as fuel to re-ignite the path to the greatness that is within you. What you have overcome and continue to work so hard for can be an example for all of us.
Lastly, you demonstrate that it’s ok to take some time away and it’s ok to connect and share with whom you trust, when you’re ready.

We are officially an “Edmonton Made” business! Edmonton Made
This badge is designed to distinguish “bad ass” local businesses in Edmonton! 😉Okay, perhaps not in those exact words… But the truth behind this badge is that it’s a symbol of quality, craftsmanship and a dedication to supporting Edmonton businesses and its community.
We are grateful to be considered “Edmonton Made” and we’ll represent the badge to its fullest.

We’re putting an end to your January Fitness Resolutions once and for all.
1️⃣ If you want your health and fitness to improve, you must plan, set goals and execute. There are no shortcuts.
2️⃣ For longevity, surround your health and fitness with others who have the same mindset. We all need a helping hand when times get difficult.
3️⃣ If you want your health and fitness to become the best it’s ever been, it’s about your commitment, not motivation. Why? Because consistency triumphs.
Check out what our community had to say about their fitness journey last year!

Evolution of Fitness
Regardless of which fitness goal you’re striving to achieve, we’ll support you. If you feel good about yourself and are living a happier, healthier and more fulfilling life through exercise, keep going!
November 1st, 2018
Our goal at F.R.E.E. Fitness is to help people become healthy, both physically and mentally. Sorry ladies, this is going to be a legend-hairy month…
Our #Movember initiative is working towards raising money and awareness for men’s mental health. Why? Because the rate of suicide is alarmingly high because too many men are ‘toughing it out’, keeping their feelings to themselves and struggling in silence. The Movember foundation is aiming to reduce the rate of male suicide, and we want to help.
Our “Pay How You Feel” donation is a method to support our #Movember2018. Please donate through our ** Movember Link **or donate cash to any of these handsome men to support men’s health. We’ll also be hosting “Pay How You Feel” donation bootcamps this month to get ya’ll moving! Everybody welcome.

These are my parents. Both of them are boat people meaning they were refugees from Vietnam and travelled by ocean to escape the war. They sat in overcrowded boats, shoulder to shoulder for days on end. My dad tells me he ate 3 small spoons of rice and drank a few sips of water each day to survive… My parents never knew if their boat was going to sink to the bottom of the ocean. Thankfully, they were the lucky ones. .
They met working at KFC in the Yukon, earning less than $4 dollars per hour deep frying chicken. I love listening to the story my dad tells me every Christmas about how 2 abrasive customers stormed into the restaurant and demanded chicken. My dad smiled, and politely replied by holding up his hands , indicating 5 more minutes. They told my dad to go “fuck himself” and flipped him off for not being able to speak english. Little did they know, my dad was a black belt in Tae Kwon Doe. Not fully knowing the “Canadian” way of life compared to living in Vietnam, both guys ended up crawling out of KFC on all 4’s after my dad gave them a butt kicking.
My parents faced hostility and racism for being “vietnamese refugees” but they never let bigotry deter them from being hardworking and successful Asian Canadians.
They worked multiple jobs a day, 7 days a week. Most days up to 18 hours dishwashing, cooking and cleaning. This helped them start their own small business called “Sun Rise Janitorial” and shortly after they purchased their first home in Whitehorse, Yukon. During this time, they also sent money back to Vietnam and with the help of my uncles, re-built my grandpa’s house for the rest of my extended family. This house still stands today. They were the first Vietnamese couple to be married in the Yukon.
These stories motivate me everyday when I think I have it hard, especially when I think I’m too “busy or stressed” with F.R.E.E. Fitness, MyCarpoolPal and other life commitments. When in reality, I have it easy compared to their life changing transition to Canada. I am proud to say these are my parents. My sisters and I are beyond grateful for the opportunities that we have because of their struggle, sacrifice and courage.

After being inspired by Albert two weeks ago, I felt the urge to learn more about different facilities in Edmonton that provided training and rehabilitation for those with neurological and associated disorders.
This led me to meet Bean Gill. In 2012, while she was vacationing, she initially felt a sharp pain in her spine that caused numbness below her waist. Bean was subsequently paralyzed by a rare disorder called transverse myelitis. Doctors thought she would never walk again.
As most can only imagine, this life altering event has been pivotal in challenging everything she thought she once knew about herself emotionally and physically. Despite the odds, she’s worked incredibly hard for the last 6 years to walk, move, and see the light through the dark.
After speaking with Bean last week, she shared with me that she believes that this was destined to happen because this is how she met her training and business partner, Nancy Morrow.
Bean and Nancy are the co-founders of Reyu Recovery Centre in #YEGFitness. This organization exists to inspire, motivate and promote recovery for spinal cord injuries and associated disorders thus, making fitness accessible to even those with medical conditions impacting their mobility and/or functioning of varying degrees. Bean, Nancy and their team of trainers are giving hope to thousands who thought recovery was never possible.
Bean’s journey of overcoming adversity by not losing hope and utilizing the power of positivity has changed the course of her life while inspiring others to change as well. What she has overcome and continues to work so hard for can be an example for all of us.
To those of you reading this, if you feel like you’re losing hope, just know that you have others here to help, guide and support you. So that one day, you’ll be able to do the same for someone else, just like Bean. #BeLikeBean

Meet Albert Liaw – co-owner of Golomein Noodle House in Edmonton. He’s a former high level boxer, crossfitter, as well as a kind-hearted and genuine man with a perseverance like no other. He’s also a recovering stroke patient. For 13 years, he has suffered and battled many of the common symptoms of stroke, which include paralysis of the left side, difficulties with balance, numbness, stiffness, and speech deficiencies. Along with those symptoms are feelings of frustration, anxiety and depression.
As most can only imagine, it has been difficult for Albert as he was once considered an elite athlete, but is now navigating through the fear, apprehension and uncertainty of what he has to face in the aftermath of a stroke.
However, with resilience, mental toughness and sheer will, he makes the daily choice to not let his stroke define him or dictate the rest of his life.
If you train at our gym, you’ll see him working out with @mr.tykhan focusing on balance drills, coordination tasks and range of motion activities. Through thick or thin, rain or snow and long bus rides alone, he’s here with us, and we’re here with him every step of the way.
Albert’s goal is to one day be able to shadow box and jog again. It won’t be easy, but he is mindful that he cannot change the cards that he has been dealt, but he can change how he plays his hand. Albert’s dedication and focus motivates us and moves us to the core. We are honoured to be a part of this stage of his journey.
Let Albert’s story inspire you to sign up for that next 5km race, join that strength class you’ve always wanted to, or go for that 20 minute walk outside. The onus is on you and you can do it. Change your body, change your mind and change your life.
Hope to see you in the gym, soon. ️

#BehindTheScenes It’s been 2 ½ years since we gave life to F.R.E.E. to create something bigger and better for #YegFitness. During this time, we’ve had people ask us what’s key to growing a personal training business.
1️⃣ If you want your business to improve, you must plan, set goals and execute. There are no shortcuts.
2️⃣ For longevity, surround your business with others who have the same mindset. We all need a helping hand when times get difficult.
3️⃣ If you want your business to become the best it’s ever been, it’s about your commitment, not motivation. Why? Because consistency triumphs.
To anyone reading this who has had difficulties with their health, replace the word “Business” with “Health” above. Take a second read, nothing changes.

If ya’ll asked me in which photo I’m happier, it’s the photo to the left when I’m heavier. Why you ask?
The photo on the left was me 5 months ago successfully cleaning and jerking 253lbs weighing 167lbs. The photo on the right was me2 days ago missing the same lift and weight, however, weighing only 149lbs. My feeling after this missed lift: disappointed.
In my required weight cut to qualify for this competition, aesthetics was never my goal. My goal was to lift as much weight as possible and to do my personal best. Yes, losing weight can improve performance in some circumstances and yes, having a 6 pack can be great to look at; however, this only holds true for certain people and situations. In this case, I performed better when I weighed heavier. Partly because I could eat like an athlete without being obsessed with my diet.
Despite the effort I put into preparing for this meet and the phenomenal coaching and programming from Max Larocque to get me onto the platform, I didn’t walk away with my best performance. So did my weight loss impact my performance…? Who knows.
But if it did, here’s the perfect example how the number on the scale or having a “6 pack” did not bring me closer to my performance goal, nor did it make me happier.
For those who’s struggled with this like I have, I’ve slowly learned over the years that the “number” on the scale is simply just that, and in most cases should NOT be used to gauge fitness ability and most importantly, happiness.
If you’re reading this, give yourself a break and forget what that scale says. Gauge your fitness ability by your attitude, effort and improvement. By doing so, you’ll achieve way more AND be much happier, regardless of what you read on the scale.

Happy New year everyone!
We are so excited for 2018 as we know it will bring amazing things. Our first event of the year includes us hosting our very first bootcamp inside of Edmonton’s City Centre mall! You heard that right. We teamed up with the Great Canadian Fitfest to bring you such a unique event. As hundreds of people walked through the mall, we gathered everyone up to to do burpees, squats and push ups!
What will we be doing next? Our goal, to push every boundary in YEG Fitness!
Let’s rock this 2018 year!

Happy 1st of December everyone!
We are proud to announce we are partnering with Rock Jungle Crossfit Downtown, Edmonton. Our team at F.R.E.E. will have a new training facility we’ll be operating alongside of Rock Jungle. To kick off our new facility launch, we hosted our second annual “Holiday Special” bootcamp as a fundraiser for our friends at Edmonton’s Food Bank.
We are incredibly overwhelmed by the support of everyone who participated and donated to this event. In total, we had 71 participants for our bootcamp. We collected 3 and a half large bins of food, and raised over 200 dollars to donate to Edmonton’s Food Bank.
A big shout out to Muscle Mlk Canada who donated 75 bottles of their protein shake and 50 protein bars. Snap Fitness, all the way from Devon who set up their own donation box to contribute to our event. Supplement King Edmonton who came out and gave away free supplements to our participants. And most importantly, thank you to our clients, friends and family who contributed to this event!
One of our favourite quotes here at F.R.E.E. is:

F.R.E.E. 100 = ✅
This event was such a blast, despite our participants running through 30 degree weather! We started at the Kinsmen Sports Centre (open field) and ran across the blue pedestrian bridge towards the Royal Glenora Club. We continued up the Royal Glenora Stairs and back (south) through the High Level Bridge that you see above us in the photo. Once we returned back to our start position, we performed a 30 minute boot camp led by Tony Nguyen. We followed this intense bootcamp with Akhanda Yoga, led by Sri Sri.
What an amazing time and we can’t wait to host our next F.R.E.E. 100 – “Next Level Bootcamp”. Perhaps, up a mountain next time?

As you can see in this photo, Andrew took first place in his weight category and 4th place overall in the entire men’s competition.

The YEG Fitness magazine keeps us updated with what’s hot in the Edmonton fitness scene! There are a ton of local companies, (just like us) that are featured by this organization. The last edition featured an amazing story about Rose Mueller, who survived breast cancer and started this wonderful company called “Bust A Move” to bring awareness about this issue.
A big thank you to everyone who participated in this bootcamp! Our next bootcamp is confirmed for Friday April 7th at 7:00pm and this will be hosted as a fundraiser for the Edmonton Mental Health Foundation!
See ya’ll there,

Here it is! 🙂
February 25th, 2017
If anyone is looking for something new to try, F.R.E.E. Fitness highly recommends Edmonton Aradia Fitness! Aradia Fitness offers alternative fitness in a fun, safe, supportive and non-judgmental environment where we are all different ages and sizes to get fit and have fun. In this case, Asher (Jordan’s client), took us through an aerial training class focusing on spins, stalls and other positions using the static and spin pole!
Needless to say, we were all sore after the hour. More so because we could not stop laughing at how inflexible we were compared to Asher! 🙂
Stay tuned for a highlight video reel in the next few weeks!

Today was an amazing day as we hosted our first F.R.E.E. Fitness Yoga session for our F.R.E.E. community. With the help of Full Heart Breath Studios and Sri Sri, we successfully organized 75 minutes of Akhanda Yoga. As you can see, we had a great turnout to our event and we only expect numbers to grow as we’re planning to host free yoga every third weekend!
If you are interested in learning more, please do not hesitate to contact Sri Sri. Her information can be found on the “TEAM” tab above!
Thank you to everyone who came out and cheers to a wonderful weekend,

Today, we were fortunate enough to be included to a long list of phenomenal presenters to speak in front of the St. Albert Catholic Highschool (SACHS). This was the first year SACHS has hosted their “Healthy Me” wellness conference for their school.
Our topic was how to incorporate fitness into your regular day life. We spoke about how fitness does not necessarily mean pumping iron in a gym. We emphasized how there are many forms of exercise that can be incredibly beneficial to their health. Specifically, that they should choose exercise
that best fits their lifestyle and that they enjoy!
Our three main points included:
1) Search for organized exercise (recreation or competitive).
2) Surround yourself with individuals who enjoy exercise.
3) Find exercise you love.
We finished the presentation by demonstrating simple workouts that students can perform on their own! This included a 10 minute warm up, 10 minute circuit training followed by a 5 minute cool down and stretch!
Thank you SACHS for inviting our team to your wonderful event!

What an amazing bootcamp to start off the new year. This was easily the most energized bootcamp we’ve ever had. Must be all the fresh 2017 motivation :).
This bootcamp was very special to us as we introduced Sri Sri to our F.R.E.E. Fitness community. After 45 minutes of butt kicking action, she led the last 15 minutes of light stretching and meditation.
We hope to continue our momentum for February as Sri Sri will be hosting a free yoga session, February 24th at Full Heart Breath studios at 7:00pm.

A big thank you to Coach P for inviting F.R.E.E. Fitness to Kate Chegwin Highschool to train her junior basketball team. These girls rocked it today!
We started off the session focusing on their conditioning with numerous full body circuits centered around the game of basketball. Especially for young athletes, we focused on complimenting the fundamental skills they are learning at this age. In this case, we worked on improving their agility such as cutting (lateral movement), changing direction (forwards and backwards) and their vertical jump. We finished off the session with competitive on court basketball training such as passing and shooting.
These girls were a joy to work with as they all had an awesome attitude and worked their butts off!
Best of luck to the Chargers this year! 🙂

Exercise program or nutrition program, what’s more important?
Hear the answer from our very own, Jordan.

We are soaring into 2017 by adding a new member to our F.R.E.E. Fitness Family!
We are beyond EXCITED to introduce our first yoga instructor to our family!
This is the talented Sri Sri Lakshmi (Karen). She recently completed her 200 hour Akhanda Yoga certification in the Himalayan foothills in Rishikesh, India. As you can see, she’s the real deal!
We are incredibly excited to offer another service to people in Edmonton by hosting monthly yoga sessions (for all levels) at Full Heart Breath Studios taught by Sri Sri.
And yes, these yoga sessions will be free! So come on down, relax and enjoy your Friday evening with F.R.E.E. Fitness.

Happy New Year!
It feels amazing giving back to the game of basketball that brought so many happy memories growing up!
On this Tuesday evening, Tony ran a conditioning session for the Archbishop Jordan High school grade 9 basketball team in Sherwood Park!
Tony and coach Brian Prenoslo both played high school basketball in Whitehorse, Yukon. However, Brian was recruited to play basketball for Red Deer College while Tony was recruited to the Augustana Vikings.
These guys were awesome and worked their butt’s off tonight.
Good luck this season fellas!

Well, you’re not the only one.

What an amazing feeling to donate $1700.00 to the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation. The money we raised was from our Friday night bootcamp on December 3rd! Who would of thought our small company of 3 could grow to a team of 8 trainers (missing Kevin), who all care about helping others and giving back to an amazing foundation.
An even bigger thank you goes our to F.R.E.E. Fitness community who participated and donated to our cause. We would not be where we are today without each and every one of you. 🙂
P.S. Trevor wins with the best shirt! #Donuts

Our F.R.E.E. Fitness boot camps have been going so well as of late, we decided to host our last boot camp for 2016 as a fundraiser for the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation. And as you can see, it went incredibly well!
Not only did our F.R.E.E. Fitness community get an awesome workout, but they generously donated to our cause for the night. We raised approximately $1635.00 (with more to come) at our 1 hour event.
A massive shout out to Lexus Of Edmonton (West Side) for letting our team host our event in their beautiful show room surrounded by their gorgeous cars! And of course, the biggest shout out goes to everyone who donated and participated in our event. We hope these gift cards can brighten up the days for the children and their families during Christmas.

If anyone is looking for video promotion to advanced their business… Look no further than Mike Cook Media!
We had a hilarious time practicing our lines for our next F.R.E.E. Fitness video promotion for the new year! As well as our F.R.E.E. Friday tips of the week. As most people know, when January rolls around, there’s a massive spike in new gym goers and member returns!
One of our goals for 2017 is to help these new gym goers feel comfortable about training! So instead of making them feel out of place this year, let’s offer them a hand and a warm welcome! 😉

We knew this day would come when we began F.R.E.E. Fitness.
We woke up this morning to an email sent from Dez Melenka, a reporter for CTV Edmonton! She had heard great things about our “Pay How You Feel” business model and wanted to feature us on their 6:00pm evening news report.
The best part of this interview was how she even heard about F.R.E.E. Fitness! A few weeks back, we volunteered to to run a dry land camp for the Mayfield Figure Skating Club on September 28th. One of the assistant coaches enjoyed our training session so much, she raved to her husband about us. He coincidentally worked for CTV and asked Dez to contact us to be featured on this evening’s segment! It truly goes to show you that helping others always comes full circle. 🙂
Here’s the link if you would like to watch our F.R.E.E. Fitness segment on CTV!

The Elevated Learning Academy (ELA) is an institute in Alberta that offers diploma programs to applied nutrition science as well as personal training. We graciously accepted the opportunity to present in front of their students who are entering the fitness industry as certified personal trainers.
We spoke about what life was like as a personal training. The daily grind of programming, scheduling, building your brand and how to use social media effectively. Oh, if you haven’t done so already, follow our Instagram account: @f.r.e.e.fit and Facebook account: @freefitnessinc 🙂
All 5 of us (Max, Cole, Jordan, Tony and Ahmad) used to work at a commercial gym in Edmonton, so we decided to focus on the “pros and cons” between owning/running your own business versus working at a box gym. Interesting enough, the next presenter was our previous boss from World Health Club of Edmonton!
We had an amazing time and we would like to thank Kari Green for inviting F.R.E.E. Fitness to speak in front of her class!
Good luck to all the future graduates of ELA,

Today, we ran a dry land training session for these young figure skaters from the Mayfield Figure Skating Club. The coach happens to be Tony’s client, Paige Walker (far left).
We were fortunate enough to get to know these young athletes as we coached them through some body weight squats, lunges, and upper body exercises. Finishing off with a core circuit! These little guys were tough as we performed the exercises outside on a chilly evening…
Thanks for having us coach Paige and the best of luck to these young athletes,

See you next Friday! 😉

We are incredibly excited to have partnered with Lexus of Edmonton to host our first indoor boot camp of the year!
Although we anticipated the weather to be a tad chillier in the middle of September (+19 degrees Celsius outside today), we now have an indoor location to continue our F.R.E.E. Fitness boot camps well into the winter months!
In our quest for providing available fitness to Edmonton, we are truly grateful for Lexus to have reached out to us. They are a tremendous company and we can not thank them enough for allowing us to use their beautiful show room to host our boot camp! We promised not to scratch any of their beautiful cars, however, the same can not be said about sweating up their clean floors! 😉
Once again, a big thank you to all of our participants at our event as you are the reason why we are here today.

These are the 2016 Augustana Viking’s men basketball team. Yes as you can see, we are kneeling because we didn’t want to look so short standing beside them!
Our strength and conditioning session lasted two hours. We started the first half on the hardwood and put them through sprints, sled pushes, jump squats and much more. Followed by an hour in the weight room working on their plate squats, overhead squats and front squats. Lastly, we spoke about the importance of mobility for athletes.
Best of the luck to coach Drabiuk and to the Augustana Vikings this year,

Our biggest F.R.E.E. Fitness boot camp to date, 70 participants! 🙂
A lady from the top floor from the apartments behind us came down to see what the big commotion was because she could hear Jordan’s voice all the way from her living room!
A big thank you to everyone who participated in our event!
Let’s keep growing,

F.R.E.E. Fitness is proud to announce that we have become sponsors to the Augustana Viking’s men’s basketball program.
Tony played for the Vikings from 2009-2014 and has many roots with the University. By becoming a sponsor, our team will contribute by providing preseason conditioning camps, in season maintenance programs and a resource for any fitness and nutrition related questions.
In return, this beautiful F.R.E.E. Fitness sign will be displayed around their gymnasium, pamphlets and website!
We couldn’t be happier to be teaming up with such a well respected University College in Alberta.
Here’s to a healthy and injury F.R.E.E. year! 😉

One of our favourite group photos after our Friday night F.R.E.E. Fitness boot camp! Check out Ahmad and his launch off the Royal Glenora Stairs! #Epic
It was a beautiful night for an outdoor boot camp. We have been incredibly excited watching our numbers grow each week! This was a special boot camp as F.R.E.E. Fitness was featured on Active YEG. An organization that promotes fitness events in Edmonton for their followers. It’s cool to connect and work alongside other organizations with similar fitness beliefs.
See you next Friday for more laughs, good times and a butt kicking by Jordan and team F.R.E.E. Fitness!
July 22nd, 2016
I appreciate my health and fitness because they enable me to enjoy activities like the great outdoors. Over the past 3 days, I was fortunate enough to take in the sights while trekking pain free through Tombstone Park in my home territory, Yukon.
The mountains were absolutely breathtaking, the air was crisp and the lakes were miraculous. And look at that view! 🙂
Lastly, what are activities in your life that you appreciate because of your good health?

What an amazing afternoon working and training these young biathletes! We coached the fundamentals to squats, lunges and much more. The best part of the afternoon was kicking back, chatting and laughing with them as we had a great time getting to know each athlete. A big thank you to coach Lowell for the invite, we will be back!
P.S. The best part of the day was training with our entire F.R.E.E. Fitness Family! #Fitfam
May 25th, 2016
We had an amazing day running a strength and conditioning camp for the 15 and under Team Territories basketball squad. This team is made up of young players from Team Yukon, Team Northwest Territories and Team Nunavut. Coaches and players travel to Camrose, Alberta to partake in a full week of basketball practice at the University of Augustana.
An interesting fact is that Tony played for Team Yukon from Grade 9 to 12, and is an alumni for the Augustana Vikings basketball team from 2009-2014. Lots of connections for Tony at this camp.
Our two hour training session consisted of conditioning drills, core circuits and information about proper nutrition/post recovery for these young athletes.
A big thank you to coach Tim Brady (Yukon) and coach David Drabiuk (Augustana Vikings) for inviting us to the camp, we had a blast!
Good luck at Nationals this year Team Territories,
May 21st, 2016
This was a very special moment for our company as it was our first outdoor boot camp of the year. One of our first goals as a team was to host free boot camps. We wanted to build an environment where we could make exercise fun, get to know others and enjoy the beautiful weather outside. As you can tell, the river valley was absolutely stunning this day!
We host free boot camps every Friday evening in the summer at 7:00pm at the Royal Glenora Stairs. Come on down and get your butt kicked by Jordan and the rest of the F.R.E.E. Fitness Family.
Hope to see you there!
